At my very core I am an Engineer. I enjoy creating products that enable processes and people to be more effective. I am always looking for ways to make things better, people more efficient, and process that take less time to accomplish. Optimizing the ‘Cost-Schedule-Performace’ metric applies to Life as it does to entrepreneurial activities.
My core business is server hosting and application development. Web, email, co-location, VPN, etc. My company, TelePresence, Inc. was the first electronic mail company in North Alabama, starting in 1989 as a Bulletin Board System linked to the UAH ChaosNet.
I enjoy coding in many languages, and have experience in Ada, APL, C and C++, Fortran, HTML, JavaScript, Lisp (Common Lisp), CLOS (Common Lisp Object System), Pascal, Python, Ruby, and Swift. Though, Lisp, C and C++, and LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL, PHP) remain my favorites. I am also platform agnostic, have delivered application onto Windows, iOS, MacOS, Linux, Unix and embedded systems.
My company developed an asset tracking application that originally utilized Dolphin scanners (the same ones the USPS uses) and then moved onto Passive RFID and then Active RFID tags. We used RFID infrastructures (timebased radios) to keep track of those assets as they moved into and out of trucks and onto manufacturing and storage facilities. The assets were transported in Less-Than-Load and Milk-run freight trucks, and we never missed a stop as we did with handheld scanners. Active RFID made the processes better.
